Fairy Tale Dolls

To find out more:
The video on my main gallery page of my solo exhibit, "There, There: Healing Dolls as Solace in an Off Kilter World,"  January through March of 2019 shows some of my most recent dolls. The video tells the story of many of my dolls in detail and helps you to see them in three dimensions. Several of the dolls have sold. I have tried to note in the gallery which dolls are no longer available.

You can also find me on Instagram and on Facebook. I tend to post daily on Instagram with updates about my dolls, posting progress photos and notes about what I am thinking about in my studio.
Fairy Tale Dolls:
Some of the dolls I have made that were inspired by fairy tales, either invented or actual tales. When I was a child, my mother used to read my sisters and me, the original Grimm's fairy tales. These were not the "Disnified" versions of the stories that you might have seen in the movies. I believe that children are able to handle more than we give them credit for.

These dolls were inspired by the fairy tales, mythology and magic that remained in my blood from my childhood of immersing myself in these stories.

Several of the dolls seen above were exhibited in a show in 2016, called Materialized Magic: Mythical Creatures in a Yarn Bomb Habitat at the Arlington Center for the Arts in Arlington, VA. Below are images of my dolls in that exhibit, photographed by Stacy Cantrell, my collaborator on this project. Crocheted leaves, grass, vines and other details were created by members of the community. This grant funded project involved members of the community from preschools, nursing homes and those who participated in open felting, crocheting and knitting sessions at the Torpedo Factory in Alexandria, VA. For more about Stacy's work and for more images from this exhibit, see her website, Polymath Crafts.org.
